What Has God Hidden for You?
When I was little, my best buddy and I would start hiding the easter eggs about this time of year. We spent countless hours hiding eggs for each other. It was so fun to find them, even without candy stuffed in them. I also remember there was a lot of joy in finding a hiding place we hadn’t thought of before. We were delighted when the hunts took longer than just a few minutes.
One version of Prov. 25:2 says, “God delights in concealing things…” It is amazing to think He hides things FOR us. God thinks of us, and it is His glory to conceal a matter FOR US TO FIND.
God has hidden things for us in nature, like our Easter eggs. Our amazing Creator has made some of the most breathtaking creations. Billions of snowflakes and all are different, and we only see a few of them. Wildflowers in the backcountry on some hillside may grow and reach maturity without a single person seeing them. It blows my mind to consider His intentionality with His creation.
I stood way off a path in the Teatons and looked around to see rocks of all shapes and colors surrounding me. They looked exactly like Easter eggs; the colors were so different, and they were stunning. I wonder if God chuckled as I finally found these rocks he had placed there for me to enjoy.
That same verse (Prov. 25:2) also goes on to say, “But is the glory (privilege) of kings to search out a matter.” It truly was my privilege to stand there amazed at God. And there are so many other experiences that have caused me to marvel.
A dove flew over my shoulder yesterday and sat on the deck near me.
A sunrise I saw in Malawi.
The sound of frozen branches on a winter day.
A solo hike when all the autumn leaves were falling around me.
There are so many big and small experiences that have caused me to be in awe of our Good Father. But it is particularly delightful when He reveals something uniquely special to me to tend to my heart.
One hard day, a few years ago, I saw a dove fly up on the porch outside. Doves have always reminded me of God’s peace that he has for me. I was so thankful because I felt like God was reminding me that His peace passes all our understanding. That season was one in which our whole family was struggling. And I felt a nudge to get up and look over the window ledge. When I did, I realized there wasn’t just one dove but six doves. One for each member of our family. He reminded me He had peace for all of us.
He is creative. Often, He uses the beauty of the earth to bless us. I just wonder if we need to challenge ourselves to take the time to slow down and recall that He delights in hiding things for us.
There is an invitation to enjoy this world and look for the love notes He is hiding, especially for you to find.
