What You Need to Start Creating -let’s bring beauty into our world!

So who wants to get creative?

I have compiled a list of basic supplies I use all the time. Using these supplies (or variations of them that you might have), I will start offering ideas to create using these tools. This share is to take the guesswork out of the process and make it easier to just grab a tool on hand and be creative.

These are the tools I use daily:

  • Pens for sketching and drawing I carry these with me anytime I think I may have time for even a few minutes of sketching. They probably are my most used tools.

  • Markers I love to grab these at night while we are watching TV and also to use when I am trying to just make a quick sketch of something where I really want to remember the colors.  I love the two different-sized tips.

This was a sketch I did in Buck Mason on 12th South. I just had the pens and a few markers.

  • Sharpies These are my go-to tools.  I love them. But you need to think paper too when using them. They are amazingly easy tools to use all the time.

  • Chisel tip Sharpies I often use this in my junk journaling. They are so fun to incorporate for a pop of black

  • King Shapies I LOVE THIS MARKER! I have ordered and reordered it. I use it often.

  • Metalic Chisel Tip Sharpies If I had to pick one tool of all the tools, it might just be these. I dearly love them. And this price is ridiculously amazing.

These are pieces I created for junk journaling and you can see the metallic sharpies and other sharpie marks throughtout the vison board photos I took.

  • Mixed Media Sketchbook When I pick a sketchbook, I like for it to lay flat on a table. It is also important to me for the paper to be a bit thicker than normal. When the paper is thicker you can use all these tools without a major wrinkling. Now, when using water there will be some wrinkling, but typically the thicker the paper the less the wrinkling.

  • Watercolor pencils These are so fun to use. You can draw with them and then dip a brush in water and put a tiny bit of water on the drawing and create something brand new. It will look just like you painted with watercolors. I think these have helped me grow to become less intimidated by watercolors.

  • Watercolor paint set I have this exact set and like these colors. It is a nice beginner’s set and it is super easy to use.

  • Gouache paints These are my favorite paints. They dry quickly and I dearly love that about them. The paint works so well for sketchbooks, art journals, and collage-making.

  • Paintbrushes You can use any kind you might have around your home. But if you need some this is a good set.

This is a photo of a weekly art journal I have started and I used watercolors on this and markers too.

When I did the math on every one of these products, I realized they are around $100! That is crazy that around $100, it is possible to get all of these products.

I want you to know that any variation of these products…even your child’s art markers and watercolor set, can be used instead. Don’t let supplies keep you from trying. When I begin sharing ideas I will suggest alternative tool options with each project. But I just wanted to give a comprehensive list of what I am going to try to stick with as I create the upcoming projects because I know some of you really like to have them.

I am so excited about this and make sure you don’t miss a moment of the fun by being sure to sign up for the emails here!
